Bad Ads, Old Dropbox Search and Keyboard Navigation

First a warning. OM never approves of popups, redirects, audio ads, malware/virus or other bad ads on the site. If you see those, do not click on them! Instead, report it to our attention so we can try to have them removed asap. Our goal has always been to keep the reading experience as smooth as possible and we work really hard to keep bad ads out. That said, sometimes bad ads make it through anyways. If you see any of them, do let us know, and provide as much information as possible (screenshots, firebug screenshots). The data you provide is a tremendous help when trying to locate the source of the bad ads.

We recommend that all users switch to more secure ways of browsing the web if they haven't already. The web is a fun place (thanks to sites like OM of course!), but also a breeding ground for scams of all kinds. If you are a windows user, upgrade to the latest version of IE or Firefox, make sure your firewall and security settings are solid, download and run malware/anti-virus software and keep them updated! If you are a mac and linux user, then life is easier! Resist the temptation to click on suspicious ads (especially ads that mimic anti-virus scanning behavior, or you won! type ads) and run a full scan of your system every so often.

[tip from Brian: for WinXP, Vista, and Win 7 users, Microsoft has a free antivirus tool called Security Essentials. You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/. Definitely give it a try if you are windows users.]

We also heard you loud and clear, and are planning to bring the old dropbox manga search back. This should also fix the problems users are having with keyboard navigation. For those who liked the new search, don't worry. We are going to work on it a bit more (to include some of the dropdown functionality) before re-releasing it again.

Also a thing to note, this week's Weekly Shounen Jump is a dreaded "Double Issue". So that means there will NOT be any of the WSJ series coming out next week. Yep, so no Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Ane Doki, Bakuman, Beelzebub, Reborn, etc
So will need to wait an extra week for yet another "Double Issue" =P Holiday times aren't that great when it comes to WSJ releases haha

New Search System

[note: some of you seem to like the old dropdown box better. keep the feedback coming. we'll see if we can have both or make some changes to the current search box so that it keeps some of the dropdown functionality. Also, some of you didn't realize the old random manga functionality is still available under the 'Surprise Me!' link. We'll make the link more obvious in a future update, but for now, test it out and see if it is working properly. Some users reported errors when clicking on it.]

To celebrate our 1000th manga milestone, we have finally upgraded our search functionality! Browsing through 1000+ series through the drop down selection box was getting too unwieldy so we replaced it with a search box. We have also taken this chance to make it easier for you to filter our ever growing manga list. Just click on the 'advanced search' link under the search box to access the new search filters.

We took many user suggestions into consideration when updating the search system and hope you like the changes. As usual, we love feedback, so if you have suggestions or thoughts about the new system, do let us know.
